Pictographs on the wall of Symbol Bridge cave. It is thought that these caves were used by native people that pre-dated the Modocs. Unfortunately, vandals have also visited these caves, so it can be hard to tell which paintings are authentic.
Red ceiling in Merrill Cave. Merrill is a very large tube, and the area shown in the photograph used to be covered year-round with ice. However, the ice has disappeared over the last six or seven years.
"Lavacicles", formed as lava dripped from the tube ceiling and cooled. These lavacicles are coated with a mixture of minerals and mud known as "chocolate", and a bacteria frequently found on lava tube walls, called "cave slime".
